We know nothing with certainty about the origins or development of the church in Philadelphia. Luke’s observation that “all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks” (Acts 19:10) during the time when Paul laboured in Ephesus suggests that this church came into being shortly after the year AD 50.
