does not imply a promise that the Lord will protect from tribulation, that others will suffer but Christians of Philadelphia (and elsewhere over the ages) will not. The point of the term is instead that though the saints will experience hostility, the Lord will preserve them in the midst of tribulation, so that they will come out safely on the other side.
10 Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
