Proverbs 13:4 (ESV)

4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

This proverb can be applied to more than only material things. There are many things that a person can long for without ever getting them, just because he never works hard for them. This is one factor that causes different people’s circumstances to differ. It is important to ask what effort someone has put in for what he has—or wants but does not have.
