Since the text literally indicates that the angel of the Lord went up
from Gilgal to Bokim, Bokim must have been located in the hill country. This means, though, that this Gilgal was not the place where Joshua had earlier set up camp (Joshua 9:6; Joshua 10:6), which was also located in the hill country. It is rather the Gilgal between Jericho and the Jordan (Joshua 5:9).1
