It is true that even the most mature in faith often experience that the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. We all have areas of our lives and hearts that we have opened up to an alternative god. So where does your hope really lie? Not in some earthly judge to save you out of the hand of your enemies. That wasn’t the hope for Israel either. Our only hope is in the only true Saviour, the one who himself was repeatedly tested by God, through the devil and his badgering, and who repeatedly dealt mortal blows to the head of this serpent. That climaxed in the ultimate death blow, at the most severe, most critical part of the war against sin and Satan. Christ as Saviour triumphed in his death and resurrection, passing the greatest test of all, never succumbing to the seductions of the evil one. He loved his God and his people. This is the Christ who has come to us. This is the Christ you are to know, serve, and love. And as you grow in knowing Christ, you are transformed into his likeness, from one degree of glory to another
(2 Corinthians 3:8). That’s the best armament against the spiritual forces of this dark world. Put on Christ, know Christ.
6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land.
