Medical doctors will be the first to agree with this proverb, confirming that their patients’ healing is often dependent on their own attitude. The best medical help often does not make a difference for a patient who has a dark view of life. Although a person’s personality also plays a role in his attitude, we should also remember that Christian joy is not rooted in the Christian, but in Christ (Philippians 3:1; Philippians 4:4, Philippians 4:10). Let each of us, no matter of what personality type, remind ourselves: “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
