A prophet’s role is clearly outlined in texts like Exodus 4:15–16 and Exodus 7:1–2. A prophet was a spokesperson for God to the people. Deborah is thus placed in the line of Moses (see Deuteronomy 18:15–22), and shares company with other female bearers of this title (including Miriam (Exodus 15:20); Huldah (2 Kings 22:14); Noadiah (Nehemiah 6:14).1
