Jael is a motherly figure to him, treating him with the utmost of hospitality. Sisera asked for water; she gave him milk. He wanted a place to hide; she gave him a bed to take a nap. She even went in to tuck him into bed. Then she agreed to go and stand guard while Sisera slept. However, Sisera had not reckoned with Jael’s philosophy to “speak softly and carry a big stick.”
19 And he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.” So she opened a skin of milk and gave him a drink and covered him.
