Those who are called to lead their families, their churches in battle against evil, have the way paved for them by Christ, our Warrior God who became flesh, and who won the war. Never once did he have reluctance or hesitation to follow his Father’s will. He endured the conflict for us, against sin and Satan and death. He was completely alone in the garden of Gethsemane, without any help from anyone, and yet he still prayed, Not my will, but yours be done.
He went resolutely into the ultimate battle, the cross. He faced that battle alone, for not even his Father was there to help him as he cried out, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
He won the war over chaos and death. His death and resurrection have delivered us, and now he’s blessed us with his Spirit, who enables us, all of us, to take on evil. May Christ help his people to trust him, that what he promises, he delivers.
1 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD after Ehud died.
