The book of Esther mentions a Jewish man called Mordecai. He sat in the king’s gate (Esther 2:21) during the time when Ahasuerus (Xerxes 1, 519 BC–465 BC) was king of Persia. Since this is at least fifty years after the events of Ezra 2:2, the Mordecai mentioned in this verse must refer to a different Mordecai.
