Ezra 5:1–6:22 (ESV)

1 Now the prophets, Haggai and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel who was over them.

Ezra 5–6 can be divided as follows:

  • The work of rebuilding begins (Ezra 5:1–2)

  • The work of rebuilding is questioned (Ezra 5:3–5

    • A letter is written to the Persian king (Ezra 5:6–17)

  • The work of rebuilding is investigated (Ezra 6:1–2

  • A discovery is made (Ezra 6:2–5)

    • A letter is written to Tattenai (Ezra 6:6–12)

  • The work of rebuilding is completed (Ezra 6:13–18)

  • Concluding celebrations (Ezra 6:19–22)
