The present high living which these leaders enjoy will not last and they, the leaders, will be the first to be taken off into exile. From elsewhere in Scripture, it does seem as if this was indeed the case: the royalty were taken captive first (see 2 Kings 24:11–16; 2 Kings 25:11–12, 2 Kings 18:1 – 21:26; 2 Chronicles 36:5–7; Jeremiah 24:1–10).
7 Therefore they shall now be the first of those who go into exile, and the revelry of those who stretch themselves out shall pass away.”
