1. Amos 6:12 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean that the people of Israel changed justice into poison and righteousness into wormwood?

Amos 6:12 (ESV)

12 Do horses run on rocks? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood

Instead of worshipping the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, the people of Israel have substituted worship from the heart for ritual. They have not listened to the teaching of Psalm 15:1–5 and Psalm 24:4. Instead of becoming more loving, kind, and generous like the Lord, instead of being changed by their worship, they have turned justice into poison and righteousness into bitterness.
