Amos’s prophecy (Amos 7:8–9) has been interpreted by Amaziah as a threat to King Jeroboam. Presumably he has either deliberately misunderstood what Amos said or misrepresented Amos to the king. He clearly does not like Amos and wants to find a way of getting him to leave the northern kingdom.
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.
