Edom was a bitter and constant foe throughout Israel’s history (Exodus 15:15; Numbers 20:1–29; Judges 11:1–18; 1 Samuel 14:47; 2 Samuel 8:14; 1 Kings 11:14–16; 2 Kings 3:1–27; 2 Kings 8:20; 2 Kings 14:7–10). Now they would be included among God’s people. This phrase, the remnant of Edom, therefore refers to the inclusion of other nations.1
12 that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations who are called by my name,” declares the LORD who does this.
