This prophecy regarding Syria came true within a generation. Pekah of Israel and Rezin of Damascus (2 Kings 16:5–9; Isaiah 7:1–9) attacked king Ahaz of Judah, who sought help from Tiglath-pileser III of Assyria (2 Kings 16:7–8). The Assyrians conquered Damascus, killing Rezin and taking the people into exile to Kir (2 Kings 16:9).1
4 So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.
