What exactly was the LORD going to do to Israel?

Amos 4:12 (ESV)

12 “Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

Previously the Lord exercised restraint so that Israel was like a stick snatched from the fire. However, restraint would not be exercised forever.1 With this phrase Amos is alluding to future judgment that the Lord would bring upon his people.
