Psalm 48
Amos 1:1-2 has testified that the Lord roars from Zion. Zion (Jerusalem) features prominently in the psalms. Under the old covenant, the temple in Jerusalem was the one place on earth where you could go to meet with God. Now, in the new covenant, God dwells in his people by the Holy Spirit and we can approach God through faith in Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10:19–25). As a result, when we sing of Zion, we do not sing of the earthly Jerusalem but of the church of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 48 is one of the songs of Zion. In Psalm 48 we testify that even now God is guarding and protecting his church. No one will separate us from the love of God. He is our King who he will keep us secure and one day gather us into the heavenly Jerusalem.
