After Israel's escape from Egypt, they found refuge in the wilderness. In the barrenness of the wilderness, the Lord God provided both food and safety for his people (Exodus 16:1–36; cf. 1 Kings 17:3–7). This is equally true for the New Testament church. In addition, the wilderness represented for Israel that they were en route to that Promised Land that flowed with milk and honey. Life in the new dispensation is also a journey to the Promised Land of the New Jerusalem; here we are exiles and sojourners (1 Peter 1:1; 1 Peter 2:11). More information about the woman’s time in the wilderness is forthcoming in Revelation 12:14.
6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.
