Jesus had said that he would go to prepare a place for his disciples/people (John 14:2–4). That was a reference not only to the eternal security of the New Jerusalem but also to the safety he would ensure for his New Testament church as a result of his victory over Satan on the cross (Colossians 2:15). The allusion to this promise in the present passage provides John’s readers with the assurance that the Lord will preserve his church in the face of the devil’s rage (see further Revelation 12:14–17). While her Son is safe in heaven, the woman/church is safe in the wilderness. The term “nourished” later in this same verse echoes this assurance.
6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.
