Why is the river described as coming “out of his mouth”?

Revelation 12:15 (ESV)

15 The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood.

Jesus had warned the Jews that “when [the devil] lies, he speaks out of his own character” (John 8:44). The river that comes out of the devil’s mouth is a deceptive lie, for his water will not give true life, not even in the dry of the wilderness. His intent is to deceive the woman (church) so that she builds up her life from the things of this world, and not from the living water that Jesus had promised his church (John 4:13–14; John 7:37–39).
