1. Revelation 13:6 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What blasphemies did the beast utter during the time of its authority?

Revelation 13:6 (ESV)

6 It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven.

Its haughty words were directed against the Lord God, the very God of glory praised in the songs of the heavenly creatures of Revelation 4:8, Revelation 4:11, and Revelation 11:16–18. In blaspheming God, the beast curses God’s name (reputation) as well as his dwelling (a reference to heaven (Revelation 15:5), or perhaps the church (1 Corinthians 3:16)) and those who dwell in God’s dwelling (angels and departed saints). So where God is commonly praised, this beast hurtles his blasphemies.
