The word translated as “blameless” appears repeatedly in the Old Testament in relation to the sort of animals that the Lord would accept in sacrifice: “without blemish” (Leviticus 1:3, Leviticus 1:10; Leviticus 3:1, Leviticus 3:6; Leviticus 4:3; etc.). Priests too had to be “without blemish” (Leviticus 21:17–21). Nothing but the best was fitting for the Lord God. By the renewing work of God, this is how the redeemed appeared before God.
5 and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.
