What makes the peoples’ hiding places insufficient?

Revelation 6:15 (ESV)

15 Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains,

When Adam and Eve heard the sound of God coming to them after their disobedience, they attempted to hide among the trees of the garden (Genesis 3:8). That effort was insufficient. In this instance, people seek better places to hide, namely, in caves and among rocks (see also Isaiah 2:10, Isaiah 2:19). But they know their hiding place to be insufficient, as their call in Revelation 6:16 demonstrates.
