The tabernacle Moses built was patterned after the heavenly prototype. Moses’ tabernacle had two altars, the first being the bronze altar of burnt offering positioned in the courtyard outside the tabernacle proper (on this altar sin offerings were also presented), and a second (smaller) golden altar positioned inside the tabernacle in front of the curtain that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. This golden altar was used to offer incense to God enthroned inside the Most Holy Place (see Exodus 30:1–10). The altar mentioned here is the golden altar of incense.
