1. Revelation 8:5 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What did the angel do after he had offered incense to God?

Revelation 8:5 (ESV)

5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

The angel now took the “golden censer” he had with him (Revelation 8:3), shoved it into the coals burning on the altar, and threw those coals upon the earth. Those same coals had released the sweet-smelling aroma of the incense in Revelation 8:3. These coals rained upon the earth, then, even as the aroma of the incense filled the nostrils of God.
