John 1:6–13 is part of the prologue to John’s Gospel.
In the first part of the prologue (John 1:1–5), John emphasized that the ultimate origins of Jesus are in the pre-incarnate Word. Now, in the next section, he introduces the public ministry of Jesus’ by referring to the witness of John the Baptist (John 1:6–8)1 before focusing on the incarnation of the Word and the privilege of being God’s children (John 1:9–13).
