He is very clear about this: he wants love and no sacrifices; the intimate relationship with him is worth much more to him than all the sacrifices you bring him. God seeks true, lasting, loyal love and real knowledge of him through dealing with his promises. He wants the covenant between him and his people to flourish again. God definitely does not reject all sacrifices in the sanctuary. But he hates religion without heart, religion without relationship. He wants real, deep love.
6 For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
