1. 1 Thessalonians 2:6 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What was this glory that Paul did not seek?

1 Thessalonians 2:6 (ESV)

6 Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.

Paul’s third denial is that he did not seek honour from people. The Greek word here translated honour is the word δόξα/doxa, variously translated as praise (NIV), glory (ESV), honour (REB). It refers here to the high status that may be ascribed to a person on the basis of qualities that are valued by society, and is most helpfully translated as honour.1,2,3
