How is Abraham our father in faith here? God teaches him: Abraham, you cannot find your security and safety in staying home, the place with which you are familiar—your culture, your relations, your livelihood. You need to become a stranger, a traveller to another land. Therefore, Abraham only lived from the Word of God; he had to follow and trust him!
That is a lesson for us: What is your ultimate security? Your living environment or God? This world in its present form is passing away; but not God and neither his Word! Have a look at 1 Corinthians 7:29–31 and 1 Peter 1:24–25. (When you read 1 Corinthians 7:29–32, do not think that now you have to divorce your wife, or that the earth and the things of the earth are not important, but: your ultimate security should not be those things; it is a spiritual attitude!)
Abraham was on the road all his life! So are we. Our destination is still coming.
