Most New Testament letters begin with a prayer that believers would receive peace (for example, Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:3; Titus 1:4; 1 Peter 1:2; Revelation 1:4) or mercy and peace from God (1 Timothy 1:2; 2 Timothy 1:2; 2 John 1:3). Jude is thus praying for God’s blessing upon these Christian believers.
More specifically, mercy can be understood as God’s compassion toward those who are called, shown through his act of salvation. Peace is a reference to the reconciliation that Christians have with God through faith in Jesus Christ. And finally, love refers to God’s love.1
2 May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.
