They will lose the Word. Jesus warns them about it and gives them a premonition of it by speaking in these images. For now the little boat of the Teacher still lies off their coast, but if they continue to shut out his instruction it will sail away. The distance in the communication that came about through the chosen form of the images makes the threat palpable. Either the seed takes root, or it will be lost!1
15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them.
