The things that the people understand instinctively are their sinful desires. These desires are controlling them so that they act like irrational animals being driven by instinct rather than reason.1 In being led by these desires, the heretics—though claiming to be above angels—are proving themselves to be on the same level as animals.2
10 But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively.
