1 Corinthians 1:28 (ESV)

28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,

Lastly, God has shamed the noble by calling people who are low and despised in the world. But Paul interrupts the parallelism that he started building in 1 Corinthians 1:27. Instead of using the words to shame, he says that God chose things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are. In this way, he compares salvation with God’s act of creation.

The gospel creates something from nothing. People who used to be nobodies are now somebodies in the eyes of God, while the world’s somebodies remain under God’s wrath.
