1 Corinthians 10:6 (ESV)

6 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.

From the example of the Israelites, the Corinthians should learn not to trust in their spiritual gifts or their baptism. These blessings will not benefit them if they desire evil as the Israelites did. With these words the Corinthians are being warned specifically against the desire for sacrificial meat.

In 1 Corinthians 10:7–10 Paul will give four examples of evildoing that brought God’s judgment on the Israelites. These examples are not chronologically arranged. They rather seem to be arranged according to their relevance for the Corinthian church.
