1 Corinthians 11:13 (ESV)

13 Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered?

For the second time in his letter (see also 1 Corinthians 10:15), Paul asks the Corinthians to use their minds and judge for themselves. His argument so far has been based on the order of creation, as it is revealed in Genesis 2:1–25. Now he offers a secondary argument, based on common sense. Paul evidently sees some continuity between God’s special revelation in Scripture and the basic awareness among humans of what is fitting and right.

Paul expects the Corinthians to answer no to his rhetorical question. It is a question about propriety (what is fitting or suitable). Since God is holy, men and women should wear suitable clothes when they approach him. To be dressed suitably is not to be dressed expensively. Rather, it is to be dressed in accordance with our maleness or femaleness, thereby showing respect for God’s creational order.
