The word But
separates this section from the previous one. A new matter will now be introduced. When it comes to this matter, Paul has to retract the words of praise that he has spoken earlier (1 Corinthians 11:2).
The essential problem is stated in the second part of this verse. Paul rebukes the Corinthians for gathering in a way that does more harm than good. In the rest of the chapter, we will discover the reasons for this strong and distressing statement.
