1. John 1:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Does "flesh" refer to what is sinful?

John 1:14 (ESV)

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The term flesh has various meanings in the New Testament. John’s use of the term is different than Paul’s use of the term.1 For Paul, flesh does refer to the sinful nature (e.g. Romans 8:1–13). For John, however, it refers to human nature without sin (John 8:46).
