John 8:9 (ESV)

9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.

The Pharisees and all the others leave one by one. Jesus confronted them with themselves. He knew their hearts and minds. He is exposing them.
