Firstly, he gives peace to his people because he is Yahweh—because of his plan. He saves not because of us, sinners (David or Bathsheba), but by his grace and faithfulness to his Word and promise. And secondly, he brings peace to his people so that he may be Yahweh—for his glory. He saves so that the glory may be given to him that he is indeed Yahweh, who is great, faithful, and true to his word (See, for example, Isaiah 48:11–12: “for my own sake, for my own sake, I do it”).
