God touches the mouth of Jeremiah. Literally! It is very special how close God gets to him! In touching his mouth, God literally puts his words in Jeremiah’s mouth, so to speak. He confirms what he told him in Jeremiah 1:7–8. He also claims the mouth of the prophet and confirms him as a prophet. He officially appoints him.
9 Then the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
