Generally in the days of the judges, it is said that Israel worshipped other gods, especially the Baals and the Ashtaroth (Judges 2:12–13), that is, the gods of Canaan.
In the days of Gideon, we read that the Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. This time, however, the Israelites serve a greater variety of false gods, namely, the gods of more nations around them.
6 The people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. And they forsook the LORD and did not serve him.
