The same word for ark
is used for the basket in which Moses’ mother put him to save his life (Exodus 2:3). The very big basket
or box
that Noah had to build was also to save lives. He constructed the ark to save his household. That is typical of the covenant of God.
The first time that the word covenant
is used in the Bible is in Genesis 6:18. God established the covenant with Noah to save him and his family. That is how God works in the covenant, and you can see it, for example in the life of Abraham (Genesis 17:6–14) and also in the New Testament when the Philippian jailer was converted (Acts 16:31). That is why small children of believers are baptized (Acts 2:39; 1 Corinthians 1:16).
7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
