Mark 10:13–16 recounts a discussion between Jesus and his disciples, which revolved around the topics of children and how God’s kingdom is meant to be received. The concern for children follows immediately after Jesus’ statements about marriage and divorce. This seems natural, since children normally come as a result of sexual union in marriage. In society, children might be regarded as insignificant and easily pushed aside, but Jesus’ disciples need to learn to not only welcome children (Mark 9:37) but also take the attitude of littleness if they are to enter the kingdom of God (Mark 10:15).1
13 And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them.
