There are many Christians who do not understand that good and evil are mutually exclusive. Such believers naively think that dialogue will resolve all strife. Yet the Word of God tells us to discern evil, to take it seriously, and to deal with it realistically and ruthlessly. When a man shows that he is a scoffer, we are not to negotiate with him. The Lord prescribes driving out such a person. This is not merely an Old Testament principle. Jesus expects his people to recognize dogs and swine, relating to them accordingly (Matthew 7:6), and his apostles instruct us to shun committed troublemakers (Romans 16:17–18).
10 Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease.
