Proverbs 25:23 (ESV)

23 The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.

As certain winds always bring bad weather, so a backbiting tongue always leads to more anger. Such anger is well deserved when one is too cowardly, malicious, or irresponsible to tell the other person directly what he has done wrong, but instead sneaks around verbally stabbing in the back. These are winds that we can and should keep from blowing.
