Proverbs 27:17 (ESV)

17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

We all have within ourselves potential that can be discovered and developed through communion with like-minded souls. The Word of God exhorts us to maintain such communion (Hebrews 10:24–25). Although meditating on our own should form part of our Christian lives, we were not made or redeemed to walk alone. Iron sharpens iron only when the two have vital, consistent contact. When we share our company with those whose minds and hearts are less committed to the Lord than are our own, we do not develop as we should. Iron does not sharpen itself against wood, hay, or straw.
