The Kohathite clans, together with the descendants of Aaron, were responsible for transporting the ark and other tabernacle furniture during the journey through the wilderness (see Numbers 3:1, Numbers 3:17–20; Numbers 4:15–20; Numbers 7:9; Exodus 6:16–19).
20 As to the rest of the Kohathites belonging to the Kohathite clans of the Levites, the cities allotted to them were out of the tribe of Ephraim.
