1. Joshua 23:16 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Which covenant is Joshua referring to?

Joshua 23:16 (ESV)

16 if you transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. Then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land that he has given to you.”

Joshua is referring to the Mosaic covenant made between Israel and the Lord at the foot of Mount Sinai (Exodus 19–24). In the New Testament, this covenant is referred to as the old covenant (2 Corinthians 3:4–14; Hebrews 8:6–9).
