What in this verse indicates that Gideon is ignorant of the messenger’s identity?
Judges 6:15 (ESV)
15And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
Gideon’s ignorance is indicated by how he addresses the angel as “Lord,” with has the Hebrew “Adonai” behind it instead of “Yahweh.” “Adonai” was the typical way of addressing a man of superior social position.
